RIVERDALE, N.Y. - Jaime Kenworthy (Aston, Pa.) recorded a career high 27 kills for Marist at Manhattan on Saturday, but the Jaspers prevailed 3-2 in a hard fought league match-up. Scores of the match were 28-30, 22-30, 30-27, 34-32 and 13-15 in favor of Manhattan.
Kenworthy led the way for Marist with her 27 kills, as she also contributed 15 digs and four service aces for the Red Foxes. Sophomore Jordan Rowe (Friendswood, Texas) also had an impressive afternoon, posting 10 kills, a team high 20 digs and two total blocks. Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) posted seven kills and a team high seven total blocks in the match, while Sally Hanson (Guuerneville, Calif.) chipped in with eight kills and four total blocks on the afternoon. Freshman setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) posted 43 assists for the Foxes.
The Manhattan charge featured four players that recorded double digit kills, led by Kandice Watson who collected 20 in the match. She was supported by Sherryta Stokes with 16 kills, Whitney Judkins with 14 and Rita Welsh with 10. Ashley Watson posted a match high 27 digs, while Alyssa Getzel recorded 10 digs and 60 assists for the Jaspers, who improved to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in the MAAC.
With the loss Marist drops to 4-10 overall on the season and 2-3 in league contests. The Red Foxes will be back in action tomorrow when they square off with Loyola. The match is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. in Baltimore.
