Final Stats

LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. - The Marist volleyball team bounced back from Friday's loss at Fairfield to defeat Rider 3-2 (30-21, 19-30, 20-30, 30-24, 15-13) Sunday afternoon. Freshman Joanna Foss (Northville, Mich.) led the Red Foxes with 19 kills, hitting .288 with 11 digs.

Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Tex.) added 18 kills and 11 digs. Freshman Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.) also had a double-double with 11 kills and 10 digs, adding two blocks. Libero Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) led Marist with 19 digs.

After Marist took game one 30-20, Rider bounced back taking games two and three. The Broncs held Marist to under .120 in both games. The Red Foxes would come back in game four. Behind six kills each from Burke and Schultze, Marist won the game 30-24 to force a deciding fifth game.

The Red Foxes would hit .379 on game five, bolstered by Schultze's four kills on eight attempts and three kills on four attempts from Lindsey Schmid (Austin, Tex.). Schmid came off the bench to get seven kills on 11 attempts, giving her a .636 hitting percentage. Marist took game five 15-13 to win the match 3-2.

With the win, Marist moves to 4-6 in the MAAC and 8-14 overall. Rider is now 0-10 in the MAAC, 1-18 overall. Rider's Lacey Johnson led all players with 21 kills and had 20 digs. Setters Elyse Grassmuck and Amanda Piccolini combined for 55 assists, getting four Broncs in double-digit kills. Libero Amy Jeary led all players with 23 digs.

Marist returns to the McCann Center on Saturday afternoon to take on Saint Peter's. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
