POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist football team suffered a 33-0 loss to Fordham of the Patriot League on Saturday night at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. Junior running back Keith Mitchell (Syracuse, N.Y.) paced Marist with 107 rushing yards on 11 carries.
Fordham scored touchdowns on its first three drives of the game. The Rams got on the scoreboard first with 9:56 in the first quarter when quarterback John Skelton scored on a one-yard run. After a 17-play, 71-yard, 7:23 Marist drive culminated in a missed field goal, Fordham scored three plays later when Skelton found Asa Lucas for a 78-yard touchdown pass to give the Rams a 14-0 lead. Fordham scored two touchdowns in the second quarter on runs by Xavier Martin and Darry Robinson to take a 28-0 halftime lead. Adam Danko made 31-0 in the third quarter on a 32-yard field goal, and the Rams added a fourth-quarter safety to provide the final margin.
Marist quarterback Stephen McGrath (Manasquan, N.J.) completed 18-of-31 passes for 170 yards. Sophomore Will Brown (Windsor, Conn.) led the Marist receiving corps by catching seven passes for 80 yards. The Red Foxes gained 357 yards of total offense on the evening.
Defensively, freshman defensive back Kurt Steubing (Massapequa, N.Y.) tied for the team lead with seven tackles apiece.
With the loss, Marist fell to 1-8 overall. The Red Foxes will conclude the home part of their schedule next week when they host Georgetown at 1 p.m. on Senior Day.
