POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team won their tenth match of the season Saturday, defeating Manhattan 3-1 (28-30, 30-25, 30-20, 30-20). Sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Tex.) had her fourth consecutive double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 13 digs.
Freshman Lindsey Schmid (Austin, Tex.) filled the stat sheet with 10 kills, hitting .304 for the match with four service aces and a team-high seven blocks. Sophomore setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) had 45 assists in the match, and now has over 1,000 assists in her career. Junior Kelsey Schaefer (Maria Stein, Ohio) and freshman Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) helped keep Manhattan to a .029 hitting percentage in the match, as they combined for 21 digs. With the win, Marist is now 10-15 this season, 6-7 in MAAC play.
After dropping game one 30-25, the Red Foxes would take an early 8-3 lead in game two. Behind nine kills from Foss and Schultze, Marist would win the game 30-25 to level the match. In game three, Marist dominated the Jaspers, getting out to a 21-7 lead en route to the 30-20 win. The Red Foxes hit .263 in the game while holding Manhattan to an .091 percentage. Marist would roll the momentum into game four, hitting .353 in the deciding game to win 30-20 and take the match 3-1.
Manhattan (4-21, 3-10 MAAC) was led by 10 kills each from Rita Welsh and Sherryta Stokes. Setter Alyssa Getzel had 38 assists, and Ashley Watson led all players with 16 digs.
Marist will return to action on Sunday at Iona. First serve is at 2 p.m.
