NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team moved to 10-16 on the season following a 3-0 (24-30, 20-30, 22-30) loss at Iona on Sunday afternoon. The Red Foxes are now 6-8 in the MAAC with four matches left in the regular season.
Sophomore Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Tex.) led Marist with 16 kills, hitting .351 in the match. Kelsey Schaefer (Maria Stein, Ohio) added nine kills and eight digs. Setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) had 40 assists on the day, with Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) leading the Red Foxes with 15 digs.
Game one was a hitting showcase, with both teams hitting over .300. Iona's .444 was better than Marist's .324, and the Gaels took the game 30-24. The Gaels would hit .441 in the next game, and go on a 12-5 run to win 30-20. In game three, Iona's defense would hold Marist to a .146 hitting percentage to win 30-22.
Iona (12-15, 9-5) was led by Sarah Wiener's 14 kills, with Kristin Allain adding 12 kils. Setter Alyssa Morales had 51 assists in the sweep, with Allison Nieters getting a match-high 27 digs. Iona had 11 service aces in the match and hit .411 as a team.
Marist will be on the road next weekend, taking on Niagara on November 3 at 2 p.m.
