Marist Men's Cross Country Place Fifth at Met Championships

NEW YORK -- Junior Girma Segni (Bronx, NY) and freshman Adam Vess (Cromwell, CT) posted top-10 finishes, leading the Marist College men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish out of 15 teams Friday at the Metropolitan Championships, held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.

Segni, last year's Met runner-up, was fourth in 26:17. Vess was ninth in 26:58. It was a personal-best time for him on the course. Senior captain Mike Rolek (Maplewood, NJ) was 37th overall in 28:01. Juniors Alex Emerel (Holmdel, NJ) and David Raucci (Clermont, NY) rounded out the scoring, placing 49th and 51st respectively in 28:38 and 28:42.

New York University won the team title with 27 points. Marist had 128 points and trailed Columbia (62), Southern Connecticut (107) and Rutgers (111).

The Red Foxes return to action Saturday at the Albany Invitational
