NEW YORK -- Junior Girma Segni (Bronx, NY) and freshman Adam Vess (Cromwell, CT) posted top-10 finishes, leading the Marist College men's cross country team to a fifth-place finish out of 15 teams Friday at the Metropolitan Championships, held at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx.
Segni, last year's Met runner-up, was fourth in 26:17. Vess was ninth in
26:58. It was a personal-best time for him on the course. Senior captain Mike Rolek (Maplewood, NJ) was 37th overall in 28:01. Juniors Alex Emerel (Holmdel, NJ) and David Raucci (Clermont, NY) rounded out the scoring, placing 49th and 51st respectively in 28:38 and 28:42.
New York University won the team title with 27 points. Marist had 128 points and trailed Columbia (62), Southern Connecticut (107) and Rutgers (111).
