LOUDONVILLE, N.Y. -- For the second time in as many matches, the Marist women's soccer team went on the road and pitched a shutout by beating MAAC foe Siena, 3-0.
The Red Foxes got on the board early when Merrilyn Esteve (Morristown, N.J.) knocked in a pass off the foot of Maria Baez in the tenth minute of the match. The Marist women would never look back.
Though the score remained the same through the 60th minute, Marist dominated the match. They out shot Siena 22-9 and took seven corners to Siena's three.
The Red Foxes pushed the score to 2-0 when Katie Zasly (Foster City, Calif.) found the back of the net on a loose ball. It was her third score of the year. Teresa Ferraro (Floral Park, N.Y.) was credited with the assist.
Junior keeper Caitlin Nazarechuk (Ringwood, N.J.) won her third match of the year. It was also her third shutout. She was credited with three saves on the day.
Marist scored again in the 81st minute when Alexandra Lauterborn (Farmingdale, N.Y.) put away a lead pass down the middle of the field from Zasly. It was the sophomore's first goal of the season.
The win pushes Marist's record to 4-3-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAAC. Siena falls to 3-6-1 (0-1 MAAC).
The Marist women will return to action this coming Monday when they face Columbia. It will be the Red Foxes first match at Tenney Stadium. Action is scheduled to start at 7 PM.
