POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist football team suffered a 31-21 loss to Duquesne on Saturday in its first game at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field in front of a program-record crowd of 4,621. Marist senior wide receiver Daniel Dulac (Newington, Conn.) caught a career-high two touchdown passes from quarterback Stephen McGrath (Manasquan, N.J.), who tied his career high by throwing for three touchdowns.

Dulac finished with three catches for 67 yards. It was his second consecutive game with a touchdown and third in the last four games. Senior wide receiver Tim Keegan (Middlebury, Conn.) led Marist with 82 receiving yards on the strength of three receptions, including a touchdown. Sophomore wideout Will Brown (Windsor, Conn.) had a team-high six catches for 38 yards.

McGrath finished the day 17-for-28 for 220 yards, and did not have an interception. He also added 41 yards rushing. Junior running back Keith Mitchell (Syracuse, N.Y.) ran for a team-high 44 yards on 12 carries.

After spotting Duquesne a 14-0 lead, the Red Foxes got on the scoreboard with 3:57 left in the second period on a 12-yard touchdown pass from McGrath to Dulac. Duquesne answered 1:05 later with an 85-yard touchdown connection from Kevin Rombach to Alex Roberson. However, Marist made it a 21-14 game two minutes later when McGrath found Dulac again, this time for a 39-yard touchdown strike. However, the Red Foxes would come no closer, as Duquesne expanded the lead to 31-14 on the strength of a third-quarter field goal by Mark Troyan and a 13-yard touchdown pass from Rombach to Bruce Hocker. A touchdown pass from McGrath to Keegan with 54 seconds remaining closed out the scoring.

Defensive back Patrick Pizzarelli (Staten Island, N.Y.), along with linebackers Dan Smith (Reston, Va.) and Kevin Foley (Washingtonville, N.Y.), led the Red Foxes with eight tackles apiece.

Rombach, who was 16-for-25 for 329 yards, threw for three touchdowns, two of which went to Hocker. Running back Greg Hough had 111 rushing yards on 24 carries for the Dukes, who improved to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Football League play.

Marist fell to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC. The Red Foxes will return to action against La Salle next Saturday at 7 p.m., in a contest which will be held at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field.
