DERBY, CONN. - At the Head Of The Housatonic, the Marist women's crew team rowed well in the face of some strong competition and harsh weather conditions.
After waiting for nearly an hour in 90 degree sun, the Women's Fours finally got under way and the Red Foxes took fourth and fifth place (18:01, 18:05). Marist, which used two even teams, finished ahead of both boats from UMASS. They also bested teams from Fairfield, Iona and Yale. Northeastern took the top two spots (17:02, 17:39).
In the Women's Eights, the Red Foxes took seventh and 12th. Spring opponent Fordham finished ahead of both Marist boats but did not participate in the early Women's Fours races. Yale took the top spot with a time of 14:42. Northeastern was a distant second with a time of 15:25. The Marist boats finished with times of 16:11 and 17:35.
The Marist women will return to action October 20th in Massachusetts at the Head Of The Charles.
