POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team got back into the win column Sunday afternoon, defeating Niagara 3-0 (30-25, 30-20, 30-27). The Red Foxes move to 3-5 in the MAAC, 7-13 overall. Marist dominated the match defensively, holding the Purple Eagles to an .085 hitting percentage while collecting 10 blocks.
Freshman Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Tex.) added 12 kills and nine digs. Junior Kelsey Schaefer (Maria Stein, Ohio) led all players with six blocks, with Christy Lukes (Mesa, Ariz.) and Allie Burke (Alpharetta, Ga.) added five blocks each.
Game one saw Marist get out to an 18-12 lead and hold on to win 30-25. The Red Foxes would hold the visiting Purple Eagles to a .000 hitting percentage to take game two 30-20. Game three would be the most competitive of the match, with 13 ties in the game. Marist would gain control of the game at 24-21 and hold on to win 30-27 to take the match.
Nicole Piette led Niagara with 12 kills, as Maurin Lawrence added 10 kills, hitting .273. Libero Sara Mancini led the match with 18 digs.
Marist goes on the road Friday night to take on Fairfield. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m.
