JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Marist women's tennis team won its Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference opener on Sunday, as the Red Foxes cruised to a 7-0 victory over Saint Peter's. The Red Foxes dropped just one set in their singles' matches en route to the victory.
Junior Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Vanessa Pangikas at first singles. Junior Christine Ong rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Angels Wiggs at second singles. At third singles, senior Megan Gureck (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) earned a 1-6, 6-2, 13-11 win over Kristy Bonner. Freshman Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) prevailed over Meredith Earley at fourth singles 6-0, 6-2. Sophomore Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) won by forfeit.
In doubles action, Godly and Ong teamed up for an 8-2 win over Pangikas and Wiggs in the number one slot. Strange and Zampello coasted past Bonner and Earley at second doubles 8-2. Gureck and Colon won at third doubles by forfeit.
