GREENSBORO, NC - UNC Greensboro starting pitcher Ryan Falcon notched his first win of the season as the Spartans opened the home schedule with a 5-3 win over Marist at UNCG Baseball Stadium Friday night.

UNCG (1-3) struck first in the bottom of the second inning when junior Snell crushed a home run over the right field wall to give UNCG the early 1-0 advantage. The Spartans started the inning when Ed Jayjack grounded out to first base before Snell recorded his first home run of the season.

The Spartans were able to get two more runners on base with singles from Corey Overholtzer and Tim Carrier but couldn't get anyone across the plate when Matt Gaski popped up to the shortstop to end the inning.

Marist (0-1) didn't keep the game scoreless for long and tied the game up in the fourth inning behind a leadoff single from senior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.). Feeney got on base with a bunt and senior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) advanced him to second with a single. Redshirt senior designated hitter Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario, Canada) drove Feeney home on the next play when he grounded out to third base.

Marist took the lead in the sixth inning when Feeney again rounded the bases. The Red Foxes started the inning with Feeney on base after being walked by Falcon. Marist was able to get advance Feeney and get another runner on base when Pernasilici was hit by a pitch. Sophomore Max Most (Port Washington, N.Y.) had an RBI single which brought Feeney home to give Marist the go-ahead run.

UNCG made a pitching change in the top of the sixth inning and brought in Rob Gilliam to pitch. In 1.0 inning pitched he allowed one run on two hits, while striking out two and walking one.

UNCG had a big sixth inning, tallying two runs and a triple from Deleo. The Spartans started the inning with a single from Guy Welch, who advanced to second when Joe Johnson grounded out to the shortstop. Feltes, who was pinch hitting for Jayjack, hit an RBI single to drive Welsh home and Deleo blasted a triple through right field which drove in Feltes and extended the UNCG lead to 3-2.

Marist added a run in the top of the seventh by taking advantage of two Spartan passed balls to tie the game at 3-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh. The Spartans opened the inning with a leadoff single by Carrier. Gaski struck out at the next at bat, but Carrier was able to steal second base on the play. Carrier advanced to third on a balk and came home on a wild pitch by the Red Foxes.
