HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Marist women's tennis team suffered a 5-2 loss to Colgate in its first match of the Winter season on Sunday. Sophomore Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) earned victories for the Red Foxes at third singles and first doubles.
Godly prevailed 6-0, 6-0 in her singles match against Erin Fenn. She teamed with Christine Ong for an 8-5 triumph over Jackie Couture and Elise Derose. Marist also received a victory at first singles from Cassie Strange (Valencia, Calif.) who downed Couture 6-0, 6-1.
At second singles, Marist's Ong suffered a 6-1, 6-3 loss to Derose. At fourth singles, Megan Gureck (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) lost 6-0, 6-0 to Samantha Inacker. Freshman Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) dropped a 6-1, 6-2 match at fifth singles to Lindsay Grossman. Sophomore Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) lost a three-set match to Cameron Thaney, falling 3-6, 6-1, 10-5.
At second doubles, Strange and Strange lost an 8-5 match to Inacker and Thaney. Gureck and Colon fell in third doubles to Fenn and Cameron Williams, 8-4.
Marist returns to action next Sunday with its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest of the season, as the Red Foxes will take on Saint Peter's at 1 p.m.
