Marist Suffers Sweep At Hands Of Saint Peter's

March 26, 2007

Final Stats

Jersey City, NJ (March 25, 2007) - The Saint Peter's Peacocks (12-10, 3-0 MAAC) completed their three game sweep of the Marist Red Foxes (2-14, 0-3 MAAC) on Sunday afternoon.

The Peacocks are off to their best conference start in the school's history at 3-0 after another come-from-behind win. This is the first time Saint Peter's has swept Marist in the regular season since 1995, which was the first year they played them in a one game series.

The Peacocks were down 2-0 after third inning but their resiliency brought them back to tie the game 2-2 after the fourth. The Foxes answered with two runs in the top of the fifth. Saint Peter's looked to make another run having one runner reach home in the sixth. Marist tacked on another run in the top of the eighth to extend their lead back to two runs at 5-3. The Peacocks reached into their bag of tricks once again as they pulled off a four run eighth to go on top 7-5.

In the bottom of the eighth, it was the heroics of Jim O'Brien who drove in two runs on a single to the shortstop that tied the game at 5-5. Dave Lewandoski gave the Peacocks the go ahead runs after blasting a double down the right field line giving Saint Peter's the 7-5 advantage. Jeff Bayse (2-3) shut Marist down in the ninth to give Saint Peter's yet another thrilling comeback victory. The loss goes to Marist's Eric Alessio who went two innings allowing all four runs in the eighth while striking out four and walking five.

Lewandoski hit 4-5 driving in the game winning run and an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. O'Brien also drove in two runs that tied the game in the eighth. Bayse held the Foxes scoreless with one strikeout in two innings of work.
