POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Sophomore lefthander Peter Barone (Hauppauge, N.Y.) picked up his first career win Wednesday as the Marist baseball squad secured a 7-4 win over visiting Rhode Island. With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 3-15 overall, while the Rams dipped to 2-16.

Barone (1-0) came on in relief for Marist, holding Rhode Island scoreless over the final 2.1 innings with one hit and three strikeouts.

Marist redshirt sophomore third baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) powered the Red Foxes' offensive attack with his second home run of the season, a two-run blast in the bottom of the seventh to break open a tie game.

Sophomore left fielder Max Most (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) also had two hits apiece, while Musolf scored a pair of runs.

First baseman Ryan Cunningham and shortstop Dan Rhault had two hits apiece for the Rams, while Rhault also dented the plate twice.

Mark Fraser (0-1) suffered the loss in relief for Rhode Island, allowing two earned runs on three hits with two strikeouts in 2.1 innings.

The Red Foxes will now head to Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference foe Canisius on Saturday for a 3 p.m. contest that will be the first game of a doubleheader.
