CONWAY, S.C.-The Marist baseball squad picked up its first win of the season Sunday with a 12-9 victory over Rhode Island Sunday morning at Watson Stadium in Conway, S.C. Marist improved to 1-5 overall, while the Rams dropped to 1-6.
Marist senior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) launched a pair of home runs in the game, powering the Red Foxes to a 12-0 lead. Senior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) also drove in three runs, while senior center fielder Travis Musolf knocked in two. Redshirt sophomore first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) and redshirt senior right fielder Adam Pernasilici (Tecumseh, Ontario) also chipped in three hits, while junior catcher Keith Glasser (Rensselaer, N.Y.) scored a pair of runs.
Sophomore left-handed pitcher Josh Rickards (1-1, Glenolden, Pa.) picked up his first win of the season, tossing five scoreless innings with five strikeouts and five walks. Freshman left-handed pitcher Sandy Sussman (Glendale, N.Y.) notched the first save of his career after yielding just one run in two and one-third innings.
Rhode Island right fielder Eric Larson and third baseman Shaun Hagey drove in two apiece for the Rams. Pitcher James Norcott dropped to 0-2 after allowing five earned runs and 10 hits in two and one-third innings.
The Red Foxes will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Longwood for a three-game series.
