POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y.-Senior outfielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) tallied six hits in leading the Marist baseball team to 19-6 and 8-1 victories over Iona Saturday at Salesian Field. The Red Foxes improved to 10-21 overall and 6-7 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, while Iona dropped 9-23 overall and 3-9 in the league.
Musolf went 5-6 in the first game with two doubles, a home run and six RBIs. He also scored four runs. Redshirt sophomore third baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) went 4-5 with three RBIs and three runs. Senior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) and junior catcher Keith Glasser (Rensselaer, N.Y.) also drove in two runs apiece. Sophomore left fielder Max Most (Port Washington, N.Y.) and senior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) chipped in a pair of runs.
Iona was led in game one by a pair of RBIs by third baseman Nick Capowski. Designated hitter Allie Abbatiello scored two runs as well. Sophomore left hander Josh Rickards (3-3, Glenolden, Pa.) picked up the win, tossing five innings with eight hits and four runs with three strikeouts and two walks. Iona's Marty Hand (3-6) took the loss after giving up four earned runs on six hits with three strikeouts and one walk in six innings.
Marist senior right hander Erik Supplee (3-1, Williamsburg, Va.) was the story of the second game as he powered the Red Foxes to victory with a complete game performance. He tossed all seven innings, yielding six hits and one run with four strikeouts and two walks. Iona's Bobby DiNuzzo (1-4) allowed eight hits and four earned runs in six innings with three strikeouts and two walks.
Offensively, sophomore right fielder Brian McDonough (Hanover, Mass.) went 3-3 to lead the way with two doubles, while Glasser and freshman first baseman Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) each had home runs. Anderson also posted two hits for the Red Foxes. For Iona, second baseman Mike Walraven had two hits for the Gaels.
The two teams will play the third game of the series Sunday at noon at Salesian.
