NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y.-Freshman left hander Stephen Peterson (Danvers, Mass.) allowed just three hits in eight innings Sunday to power the Marist baseball squad to its fourth consecutive win, an 8-0 win at Iona. The Red Foxes, who vaulted themselves into a tie for fourth in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference, are currently 11-21 overall and 7-7 in the MAAC. The Gaels dropped to 9-24 overall and 3-10 in the league.
Peterson (1-2) struck out two and walked two during his first career victory, which was finished off by redshirt senior left hander Mike Puckli (Leesburg, Va.) who tossed a scoreless ninth frame. Iona's Kevin Carmody (0-2, Massapequa, N.Y.) suffered the loss, yielding one earned run in five innings on three hits and seven walks with four strikeouts.
Offensively, senior designated hitter Justin Lepore (Madison, Conn.) led Marist with two hits, while redshirt sophomore first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) and junior catcher Keith Glasser (Rensselaer, N.Y.) had two RBIs. Senior center fielder Travis Musolf (Manchester, N.J.) and senior third baseman Pat Feeney (New City, N.Y.) also scored a pair of runs. Musolf also posted a pair of stolen bases on the afternoon to give him 16 for the season.
The Red Foxes will be back in action Thursday at Stony Brook at 3:30 p.m.
