POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team suffered a 3-1 loss at the hands of Iona on Sunday afternoon at the McCann Center, falling by game scores of 27-30, 30-23, 30-25, 30-27. Sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) had a team-high 17 kills for the Red Foxes to go along with 15 digs.
Freshman libero Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) had a team-best 20 digs for the Red Foxes, who fell to 5-9 overall and 1-1 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Freshman outside hitter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) totaled 44 assists.
Sarah Wiener led the Gaels with 20 kills, and hit .385 for the match. Kristin Allain led all players with nine aces in the match. Alyssa Morales finished with 49 assists, and Allison Nieters led the team with 22 digs. With the victory, the Gaels improved to 4-8 overall and 2-0 in MAAC play.
Iona hit .250 for the match, while the Red Foxes had a hitting percentage of .179. The Gaels hit .341 in the fourth game to close out the match.
Marist will return to action on Saturday with a conference match at Saint Peter's, which is scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
