NEWBURGH, N.Y. -- On Wednesday evening, the Marist Red Foxes (2-3-1) beat the Central Connecticut Blue Devils 2-1 in men's soccer action. The game was played at Mount St. Mary College.
Freshman Eric Chaves (North Arlington, N.J.) scored the game winner in the 75th minute and the Marist defense did the rest in holding off a feisty CCSU team. Chaves scored off a rebound from a Jamison Allegra (East Haven, Conn.) shot, and Central goalkeeper Chris Jones never had a chance.
In the first half, Central scored when Johan Rundquist put in a cross from Yan Klukowski just outside the six-yard box.
Less than three minutes into the second half Marist answered back. Jason Nacca (Rochester, N.Y.) made a beautiful cross and Desmond Farrelly (Emerson, N.J.) headed it in.
Goalkeeper Daniel Owens (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) got the win in net for Marist, making six saves. He upped his record to 2-1. Central held the advantage in shots at 16-11. The loss drops the Blue Devils to 2-4.
Marist will return to action September 25th, at Stony Brook.
