Marist Drops Heartbreaker to St. Peter's

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - The Marist volleyball team dropped a five-game match to St. Peter's on Saturday afternoon 3-2, falling by game scores of 30-17, 24-30, 23-30, 30-21, and 15-13. Sophomore outside hitter Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Tex.) was one of three Red Foxes with a double-double, leading the team with 14 kills and adding 13 digs.

Freshmen Emily Brosky (Whitehall, Pa.) each set career highs in digs on Saturday. Foss had 18 digs to go with her 13 kills, while Brosky added a team-high 23 digs. Sophomore setter Dawn Jan (Belleville, N.J.) had 45 assists and 12 digs for her double-double.

Kim Mendoza led all players with 21 kills, hitting .347 and collecting 20 digs for the Peahens. Kate McFadden added 17 kills and 25 digs, and Yomi Angulo led all players with 37 digs. With the win, St. Peter's moves to 1-3 in MAAC play and 3-13 overall. Marist's record is now 5-10 overall and 1-2 in the MAAC.

St. Peter's hit .221 for the match, with Marist hitting .216. The host Peahens hit over .300 in their game wins, including .333 in the deciding fifth game. Defense was the name of the game, as both teams combined for 181 digs and 21 blocks.

Marist continues their weekend road trip tomorrow with a conference match at Loyola. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
