NEWBURGH, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team finished with a 2-2 tie against Hartford in a contest played at Mount Saint Mary College on Tuesday. Shareif Ali (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) scored the game-tying goal on a penalty kick in the second half, and Marcelo del Rio (Glendale, N.Y.) made 11 saves in goal for the Red Foxes.
After Hatford got on the scoreboard at the 11:35 mark with a goal by Andreas Blamo, sophomore forward Tyler DeBari (Farmington, Conn.) tied the score less than six minutes later on a header off a cross from Chris Nacca (Rochester, N.Y.). However, at the 22:59 mark, Hartford's Kevin Hall answered to put the Hawks up 2-1.
Hartford maintained the one-goal advantage into the second half, when Ali was taken down after a flurry of activity. His penalty kick found the top left corner of the net at tied the score at two apiece at the 71:25 mark. It was Ali's second goal of the season.
Shots were tied at 17 apiece, and Hartford held an 8-6 edge in corner kicks. Ali led the Red Foxes with five shots.
Marist now stands at 0-1-1, while Hartford is now 1-0-1. The Red Foxes will return to action on Friday at Army.
