NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. - Freshman guard Jay Gavin (Seat Pleasant, Md.) scored a game-high 16 points, red-shirt senior forward Ryan Stilphen (Bay Village, Ohio) had his third double-double of the season and red-shirt freshman guard Dejuan Goodwin (Baltimore, Md.) hit three clutch three-pointers in the second half as the Marist men's basketball team earned a 59-50 win at Iona on Thursday. With the win, the Red Foxes are now 13-7 overall and tied for first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference at 7-2.

Gavin scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half. Stilphen totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds, shooting 4-for-5 from the field. Goodwin, making his second consecutive start, scored 11 of his 13 in the second half. Senior swingman Ben Farmer (Clinton, Conn.) finished with six points, a season-high 10 rebounds, a team-high five assists, two blocked shots and a steal.

There were nine tied in 15 lead changes in the contest. Iona led 21-20 at half, holding the Red Foxes to their lowest point total in a first half this season. With 8:48 to play, Goodwin's three-pointer gave Marist a 48-45 lead, and the Red Foxes never surrendered the lead after that. Goodwin scored eight consecutive Marist points in a span of 1:57. The Red Foxes held Iona scoreless over the final 2:31, and went 7-for-10 from the free-throw line over the final four minutes to put the game away.

For the second consecutive game, the Red Foxes held an opponent under 30 percent shooting from the field. Iona shot just 29 percent (18-for-62) from the field 22.7 percent (5-for-22) from three-point range. Milan Prodanovic led the Gaels (7-14, 3-6) with 10 points.

Marist shot 42.9 percent from the field (18-for-42) and hit eight three-pointers. The Red Foxes also outrebounded the Gaels by a margin of 41-33.

By going 7-2 in their first nine MAAC games of the season, the Red Foxes tied their best mark in program history through the midway point of the conference slate. Marist is now tied for first place with Rider and Siena.

Marist will return to action on Sunday against Canisius at the McCann Center at 4 p.m., and will be televised on the MAAC Television Network. Sunday will also be Alumni Day at the McCann Center, as former men's and women's basketball players will be honored. The game will follow the Marist women's game against Loyola at noon.
