Red Foxes' Comeback Falls Short At Rider

Oct. 19, 2008

Final Stats

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team fell to 3-8-2 overall, and 0-3-1 in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Sunday, as the Red Foxes dropped a 2-1 decision at Rider. Marist was out shot 13-12 and the Red Foxes managed to put four shots on goal.

Sophomore Joe Touloumis (Cranford, N.J.) scored his third goal in as many games, and second goal of the weekend in the loss for Marist. His goal came in the 58th minute, and was unassisted. He capitalized off a Rider turnover and put the ball past Broncs goalkeeper Chris Pimentel.

The Broncs got their first goal of a direct kick from 45 yards out in the 36th minute. The shot beat freshman goalkeeper Scott Kessler (Jericho, N.Y.). Kessler made two saves in the first half, before he was relieved by sophomore Tom DeBenedetto (Paramus, N.J.). Rider added a second goal, the eventual game winner in the 50th minute.

The Red Foxes will return to MAAC play next weekend in Poughkeepsie. On Friday, Oct. 24, Marist will host Canisius (5-8-1, 1-2 MAAC). Kick-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
