POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist men's soccer team opened their final weekend of home Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play Friday night when the Canisius Golden Griffins visited Poughkeepsie. The Griffs came away with a 3-0 win.

Marist dominated the play, as they kept the ball in the Canisius half of the field for the first 20 minutes of the match. Sophomore Steven Morales (Farmingdale, N.Y.) had two early chances inside the 18-meter box; however, both shots went wide.

Canisius struck twice in the first half. The first goal came in the 31st minute after a Marist foul. On the ensuing free kick, the Golden Griffins Alan McGreal scored a goal on the near post.

In the 75th minute, the Red Foxes were awarded a penalty kick, after sophomore Joe Touloumis (Cranford, N.J.) was pulled down in the box. Touloumis took the PK, but the opportunity was saved by Griffs goalkeeper, Adam Miller.

Despite the loss, Marist outshot their opponent 20-5, and held the edge in corner kicks 7-3. Additionally, the Red Foxes had half as many fouls as the Golden Griffs, a 22-11 advantage for Marist.

The Red Foxes will host their 2008 senior day on Sunday, Oct. 26, when the team will play the Niagara Purple Eagles at 1 p.m. at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field. The Senior Day ceremony will begin prior to the 1 p.m. kick-off.
