POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - Sophomore Amy Tillotson (Islip, N.Y.) picked up a rebound off the post and finished her first goal of the season in the eighth minute. The Marist women's soccer team never looked back as they went on to defeat the Manhattan Jaspers in Riverdale, N.Y., 2-0.
Sophomore Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.) made 10 saves to earn her third shutout of the season; her record improved to 3-5 this season. Every win she has had in 2008 has come via the shutout.
Marist would add an insurance goal in the second half, when sophomore Merrilynn Esteve (Morristown, N.J.) notched her second goal of the season. Esteve took advantage of the Jaspers goalkeeper who misplayed a ball, which gave the sophomore an open net to score on. Esteve had a three point night as she also assisted on the Tillotson goal.
With the win, Marist improved to 3-13 overall and 1-5 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). The Red Foxes will take to the road on Sunday, Oct. 26, when the team will travel to Jersey City, N.J. to face the Saint Peter's Peahens. Kick-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
