Final Stats
BUFFALO, N.Y. - The Marist women's soccer team opened Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play on Friday evening in western New York. In their first conference tilt of 2008, the Red Foxes dropped a 3-0 decision to the Canisius Golden Griffs.
In the closing minutes of the first half the Griffs scored two goals over a span of 1:24. The first goal was scored by Kelly Reinwald, with the second marker netted by Jenny Griffin. The goals were scored at 41:32, while the second was scored at 42:56.
After the second goal, Marist made a switch in goal, as junior Anna Case (Plattsburgh, N.Y.) relieved sophomore Jamie Balzarini (Holbrook, N.Y.). Balzarini made two saves before leaving the game.
Marist was out shot in the contest 15 to one, with the lone Red Foxes shot off the head of Kate Fox (Franklin, Mass.).
With the loss Marist fell to 2-8 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC. The Marist women's soccer team will resume play on Sunday afternoon, when they complete the Buffalo swing. The team will face Niagara (7-3-1, 0-1). Kick-off is slated for 1 p.m.
