RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Marist volleyball team suffered its fourth straight loss on Saturday afternoon, losing 3-0 (16-25, 28-30, 27-29) to Manhattan at Draddy Gymnasium. Junior Alexandra Schultze (Austin, Texas) led the Red Foxes with eight kills and three service aces as Marist hit only .039 as a team in the match.
Sophomores Lindsey Schmid (Austin, Texas) each had seven kills in the match. Defensively, Cassie Campbell (Canton, Ohio) led Marist with 13 digs. Schultze and Schmid each were in on four blocks.
Manhattan (3-10, 3-2 MAAC) dominated the opening set. The Lady Jaspers hit .467 in the first set and held Marist to a .100 hitting percentage. Manhattan jumped ahead by nine at 18-9 and won 25-16. The second set was a back and forth affair with nine ties and six lead changes. Manhattan opened up a 9-2 lead before the Red Foxes went on a 16-6 run to take an 18-15 lead. The Lady Jaspers battled back to take a 22-21 lead and traded points with Marist to get to a 28-28 tie. Manhattan took the last two points of the set to win 30-28. The third set played out much like the second with the two teams trading points throughout much of the set. Manhattan, though, came through with the last two points to win the set 29-27 and the match 3-0.
Marist (6-12, 1-4 MAAC) was outhit .222-.039 in the match. Manhattan's Sherryta Stokes led all players with 13 kills and 16 digs, hitting .320. Andrea Reiff added 10 kills and 12 digs. Rita Welsh had seven kills and a match-high seven blocks. The Lady Jaspers held a 59-43 advantages in digs and a 9-7 block advantage.
The Red Foxes will look to get a split of the conference weekend when they take on Loyola on Sunday afternoon. First serve in Baltimore is set for 1 p.m.
