POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - On Saturday afternoon, the Marist women's tennis team played two dual matches against Fordham and Albany. The Red Foxes dropped both matches. They lost 5-2 and 7-0 respectively.
In doubles play against Fordham, Marist picked up one victory at second doubles as senior Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) and sophomore Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) defeated their counterparts 8-3.
Zampello also picked up a victory at third singles for the Red Foxes. She defeated Sarah Tremaine in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2.
Marist earned its' second point from freshman Kayla O'Donovan at fifth singles. After she dropped the first set 2-6, she came back to defeat Jane Carroll in three sets. The match score was 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4).
Against Albany, the team failed to pick up a victory. Erin McCarthy (Salem, N.J.) had the best results for Marist. She lost her first doubles contest 4-8 and her first singles match to Kim Weltman, 3-6, 2-6.
The Red Foxes return to action when they travel to Hartford for a dual match on Tuesday, Oct. 21. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
