Marist Football Falters Against Fordham

BRONX, N.Y. - The Marist football team had its two-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, as the Red Foxes suffered a 45-21 loss to Fordham at Jack Coffey Field. Obozua Ehikioya (West Hempstead, N.Y.), O'Neil Anderson (Dorchester, Mass.) and Ryan Dinnebeil (River Vale, N.J.) each scored rushing touchdowns for the Red Foxes.

Aided by a pair of Marist turnovers, Fordham jumped out to a 21-0 lead after the first quarter on the strength of two touchdown passes by quarterback John Skelton. In the second quarter, Skelton added another touchdown pass as the Rams jumped out to a 38-7 halftime lead.

Fordham expanded its lead to 45-7 on Skelton's fourth touchdown pass of the day, a 14-yard strike to Patrick Miller. An eight-yard touchdown run by Anderson in the third quarter and a two-yard plunge by Dinnebeil in the fourth quarter closed out the scoring.

Junior quarterback Chris Debowski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) led the Red Foxes with 68 yards rushing. Debowski was 15-for-29 in the air for 136 yards and an interception. Four Red Foxes tied for the team lead with three receptions, and junior wideout Will Brown (Windsor, Conn.) led the team with 33 yards receiving.

Defensively, junior linebacker Kevin Foley (Washingtonville, N.Y.) led the way with nine tackles and a sack. Senior cornerback Kwame Carlor (Southbridge, Mass.) finished with eight solo tackles.

For Fordham, Skelton completed 22 of 28 passes for 341 yards. Running back Xavier Martin totaled 122 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries. James Crockett had a team-high six tackles, with two coming for a loss of yardage, and two pass breakups.

Sophomore punter Kevin Pauly (Rochester, N.Y.) averaged 44 yards per punt on four attempts, with two being dropped inside the 20 and had a 56-yard punt.

Marist fell to 3-6; Fordham improved to 4-4.

Notes: Today's game was the first of three straight on the road for Marist to close the season after five straight home games. The Red Foxes will head to Georgetown on Nov. 8 and Davidson on Nov. 15. ... Ehikioya's touchdown was his 11th of the season. His career high is 17, set in 2005. ... Dinnebeil has three touchdowns the last two weeks.
