POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist women's swimming and diving team hosted the Rider Broncs on Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) meet. The Red Foxes fell 173-127 at the hands of the Broncs.
Junior Jenell Walsh-Thomas (Medford, N.J.) was a double-winner as she won both the 200-yd. freestyle and the 500-yd. freestyle. Her times were 1:55.93 in the 200-yd. freestyle and 5:13.77 in the 500-yd. freestyle.
Marist finished first and second in the 200-yd. breast stroke. Junior Lyndsay Martin (Schenectady, N.Y.) won the event, while senior Savannah Puca (Huntington, N.Y.) came in second place, as she finished just three tenths of a second behind Martin. The winning time was 2:32.68.
Junior Emily Hammang (Barrington, R.I.) finished in the top three in two events. She won the 1,000-yd. freestyle with a time of 10:48.15 and took third in the 500-yd. freestyle with a time of 5:18.33.
With the loss, Marist fell to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the MAAC. Marist still holds the edge in MAAC head-to-head competition with Rider, with 10 wins and three losses.
Marist will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8 when the Red Foxes hosts Fairfield in a MAAC meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. in the McCann Center Natatorium.
