LAKE BUENA VISTA, FLA. - The Marist men's cross country team placed six runners in the top-20 on its way to a strong second place finish at the 2008 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Saturday morning at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Senior Girma Segni (Bronx, N.Y.) was the Red Foxes' top finisher, placing sixth in the 8K race in a time of 24:47.50 and earned his fourth All-MAAC honor.
Junior Conor Shelley (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) had a 10th place finish running a time of 25:04.91 and was also an All-MAAC honoree. Freshman David Raucci (Clermont, N.Y.) was 16th in a time of 25:23.86, and Timothy Keegan (Huntington, N.Y.) was right behind him in 17th with a personal-best time of 25:28.56 to close out the scoring for Marist. Graduate student Joe McElhoney (Beacon, N.Y.) was 20th overall with a time of 25:48.51.
For the fourth straight season Marist finished second behind Iona. The Gaels took the top-five spots in the race for 15 points, the lowest amount possible. The Red Foxes finshed second with 55 points, 63 points clear of third-place Manhattan. Iona's Mohamed Khadraoui was the individual champion.
The Red Foxes will next compete on Nov. 15 at the NCAA Regionals at Van Cortlandt Park.
