NEW YORK, N.Y. - In a monumental day for the Marist men's cross country team, the Red Foxes' finished 10th at the NCAA Northeast Regional at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday. Marist's 294 points in the meet is the lowest for the team at an NCAA Regional since the 1998 team amassed 406 points. Senior Girma Segni (Bronx, N.Y.) finished 26th overall in a time of 32:49.1, the second-best individual finish at a Regional since Mike Melfi finished 25th in 1998.
David Raucci (Clermont, N.Y.) finished 33rd, his highest finish ever at an NCAA Regional. His race marked the first time in program history that the Red Foxes had two runners place in the top-50. Freshman Timothy Keegan (Huntington, N.Y.) and Conor Shelley (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for Marist. Keegan finished 84th and Shelley placed 97th. Saturday was the first time in school history that all five scoring places were in the top-100.
Marist's 10th place finish is the team's best finish at an NCAA Regional. The previous best was in 1998 when the Red Foxes finished 15th. The Red Foxes finished 10 points behind New Hampshire for ninth place. Iona won the meet with 46 points, followed by Providence and Columbia.
The Red Foxes will close the 2008 season on Saturday, November 22 at the IC4A Championships held at Van Cortlandt Park.
