The Red Foxes led 33-31 at the half before outscoring the Colonials by a 39-24 margin in the second half. After a basket by Robert Morris' Mezie Nwigwe tied the score at 37 apiece with 15:38 to play, Marist held the Colonials scoreless for the next 6:12. In that time, Mairst went on a 9-0 run and never led by eight the rest of the way.
Devezin scored 13 of his points in the second half, shooting 5-for-5 from the field after the intermission. He scored nine points in the final seven minutes of the game as the Red Foxes expanded their lead.
After shooting 33 percent from the field through their first two games, Mairst shot 50 percent (24-for-48) against Robert Morris, including 52.2 percent (12-for-23) in the second half. Marist drained 10 of its 18 three-point attempts (55.6 percent) and 14 of its 18 free-throw attempts (77.8 percent).
Red-shirt senior forward Ryan Schneider (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high nine rebounds. Schneider, who also blocked two shots, shot 4-for-8 from three-point range. Freshman guard R.J. Hall (Bloomfield, N.J.) was a spark off the bench, finishing with 14 points, four rebounds and two assists in 25 minutes of action. Hall shot 4-for-6 from the field, 2-for-3 from three-point range and 4-for-4 from the line. Red-shirt sophomore guard Dejuan Goodwin (Baltimore, Md.) made his first start of the season and finishied with 11 points and six rebounds. Goodwin shot 3-for-4 from three-point range.
Jeremy Chappell led Robert Morris (1-2) with 13 points. The Red Foxes held the Colonials to 36.8 percent shooting for the game (21-for-57), and just 27.6 percent shooting in the second half (8-for-29).
Marist, which now stands at 1-2, concludes play in the Garden State Challenge on Sunday against Delaware. Tip-off is slated for 4 p.m. at the RAC.
