WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The Marist football team suffered a 13-12 loss at Georgetown on Saturday. Senior running back Obozua Ehikioya (West Hempstead, N.Y.) scored two touchdowns and ran for a team-high 86 yards for the Red Foxes, who ran for 200 yards as a team.
After Georgetown opened the scoring a 13-yard scoring pass from Keero Lawrence to Collin Meador, Marist responded with an 11-play, 68-yard drive which culminated in a three-yard scoring run by Ehikioya. The extra point, however, was missed, to keep Georgetown in the lead at 7-6.
The Red Foxes put together another long scoring drive on their next possession, as they went 80 yards in 14 plays, which took up 8:22. The drive ended on a four-yard touchdown run by Ehikioya with 6:28 left in the second quarter to put the Red Foxes up 12-7. However, the extra point was blocked, keeping the Red Foxes in the lead by give.
Georgetown added a 24-yard field goal by Jose-Pablo Buerba with 19 seconds left in the first half to cut Marist's lead to 12-10. With 1:22 left in the third quarter, Buerba hit a 34-yard field goal, which would close out the scoring.
Defensively, sophomore safety Kurt Steubing (Massapequa, N.Y.) added 10 tackles, and senior linebacker Nick Andre (Rockville, Centre, N.Y.) finished with nine tackles, one-and-a-half tackles for a loss of yardage, and half a sack.
Junior quarterback Chris Debowski (Fountain Valley, Calif.) went 8-for-18 for 86 yards passing for Marist. Debowski attempted just four passes in the first half, as Marist ran the ball on 33 of its 37 plays from scrimmage. Debowski threw two interceptions, both of which came in the fourth quarter. He also added 64 yards rushing on 12 carries.
Junior wide receiver James LaMacchia (Bronx, N.Y.) led Marist with three receptions for 31 yards. LaMacchia had a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown in the third quarter nullified by an offsides penalty against the Red Foxes.
Marist (3-7) will close out the 2008 season next Saturday at Davidson of the Pioneer Football League. Kickoff is slated for noon.
Notes: The last five meetings between Georgetown and Marist have all been decided by seven points or less, with the home team prevailing in all five. ...
