#25/#21 Marist Wins Program-Record 17th Straight Game

JERSEY CITY, N.J. - With her tenth double-double of the season, sophomore forward Rachele Fitz (Seven Hills, Ohio) led #25/#21 Marist to a 70-57 win at Saint Peter's Wednesday night. Fitz led all players with 24 points and 12 rebounds as the Red Foxes won their 17th straight game, the longest winning streak in program history. Marist is now 27-2 on the season and 17-0 in the MAAC.

Erica Allenspach (Miamisburg, Ohio) scored in double-figures for the first time since Feb. 8, scoring 14 points on 5-of-7 shooting from the field with a career-high five assists and five steals. Lynzee Johnson (Bellbrook, Ohio) came off the bench to score 11 points and added four rebounds and three assists.

The two teams traded physical play to start the game, as the Peahens' pressure defense held Marist without a field goal for the first 2:43 of the game, taking a 5-3 lead. Saint Peter's then got four straight points from Charlene Riddick and a Natasha Morris layup to take an 11-5 lead with 15:43 to go in the first half. The Red Foxes would come back, as Johnson hit a three-pointer off the bench to spark an eight-point run to give Marist a 13-11 lead. After Morris hit another layup to tie the game at 13-13, Marist went on a 12-2 run, highlighted by a three from Élise Caron (Quebec, Canada) and a three-point play from Johnson to take a 25-15 lead with 6:13 to go in the half.

Marist and Saint Peter's traded baskets to end the half, with the Red Foxes taking a 35-25 into the break. The Peahens came out of the locker room and started firing threes. Tania Kennedy, Lauma Reke, and Johnell Burts all connected from beyond the arc to start the second half getting Saint Peter's within four, 38-34, with 16:06 to go in the game. As they did in the first half, the Red Foxes would take control. Led by an Allenspach three-pointer and Fitz three-point play, Marist went on a 10-2 run to take a 48-36 lead with 10:34 to go. The lead would grow to 16 as Allenspach connected on a pair of free throws to make the score 60-44. Marist went 12-for-13 at the charity stripe in the second half to come away with the 13-point win.

For the third straight game, Marist set a new season-high in field goal percentage, shooting 52.4% from the field making 22 of 42 shots. The Red Foxes also shot 84% from the free throw line. Marist held a 30-27 edge on the glass, with Saint Peter's high pressure defense forcing 19 turnovers. The Peahens shot 37.5% from the field and only made 5-of-20 three-pointers. Tania Kennedy led Saint Peter's with 14 points, as Johnell Burts and Lauma Reke each scored 13.
