CLINTON, S.C. - The Marist baseball team suffered a 2-1 loss to Presbyterian on Friday, as the Red Foxes fell to 0-4 on the season. Junior left-hander Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.) took the loss for the Red Foxes despite a solid day on the mound, as he allowed two runs and seven hits in six innings.
Marist got on the scoreboard first in the top of the third, as sophomore shortstop Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) started a two-out rally with an infield single. Curylo then stole second, and was driven home on a double to left field by junior left fielder Brian McDonough (Hanover, Mass.).
Presbyterian answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, and the score remained 2-1 the rest of the way.
Curylo and junior second baseman Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) each finished with two hits apiece for the Red Foxes.
Freshman right-hander Kyle Putnam (New Windsor, N.Y.) tossed a scoreless seventh and eighth in relief of Rickards.
Friday's contest was the first of a three-game series between the teams. Game two will be Saturday at 1 p.m.
