Final Stats
FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Marist baseball team suffered a 4-3 road loss in 10 innings to Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference contest on Monday. The Stags took two out of the three games in the series, which was the first for either team in conference play.
The winning run came across from Fairfield in the bottom of the 10th on a bases-loaded walk, as Marist fell to 4-9 overall.
The Red Foxes opened the scoring with two runs in the top of the fifth, but the Stags answered with two in their half. Marist took a 3-2 lead in the eighth on an RBI single by freshman designated hitter Ben Henderson (Albany, N.Y.), but Fairfield tied it in the ninth with a two-out rally.
Second baseman Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.) led the Red Foxes with three hits. Henderson, left fielder Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) had two hits apiece.
Marist will play its home opener on Tuesday, as the Red Foxes will host Fordham at 3 p.m. at the McCann Baseball Field.
