Final Stats
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team cruised to a 15-4 victory in its home opener on Tuesday at the McCann Baseball Field. Every Marist starter had at least one hit, led by sophomore Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and senior Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) with three apiece.
Gauck went 3-for-4 with two runs scored and three RBIs. Meyer went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Sophomore Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) also drove in three runs, going 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
Sophomore right-hander Richard Cary (Binghamton, N.Y.) improved to 2-0 on the year, giving up two earned runs in 5.2 innings. Cary struck out four. Junior righty Jacob Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) earned his first save of the year, pitching the last 3.1 innings. Wiley struck out five and gave up just one run.
The Red Foxes scored twice in their half of the first to take the lead for good, and added four more in the second to jump out to a 6-1 lead. Marist added single runs in the fourth and sixth, and then scored twice in the seventh and five times in the eighth.
Marist recorded four extra-base hits in the contest, as Curylo, Gauck, junior Brian McDonough (Hanover, Mass.) and red-shirt freshman Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.) all doubled.
Marist improved to 5-9 on the season, while Fordham fell to 11-8. The Red Foxes will return to action on Wednesday, when they travel to Rhode Island for a 3:30 p.m. contest.
