Ong beat Amy Kearn 6-4, 7-6 (7-5) in first singles. Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.), and Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif) won their doubles match 8-5 over Kern and Susan Ma. Marist dropped the other two doubles matches, and all six singles matches
Versus Army, Marist (0-6) was overmatched, with Alexa Strange providing the closest singles match. She lost 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 to Paige Ford.
Strange and Godly had a strong showing in their first doubles match versus Anne Houghton and Sara Giles-Madden.
"We played better in the Army match, but they were just too much," head coach Rose Nesbitt said after the match. "You have to tip your cap to that team and the way they play."
Marist will look for their first win tomorrow when they take on Providence at 9 a.m. at West Point.
