Game Two Box Score

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team was swept by Canisius in a doubleheader on Saturday at McCann Baseball Field. The Red Foxes lost both games by scores of 6-3, and now stand at 11-15 overall and 5-6 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. Canisius is 25-4 overall and stands in first place in the MAAC with a 7-1 conference mark.

In game one, Canisius scored in the top of the first, but Marist tied the game in the fourth on a solo home run by red-shirt junior first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.). Marist added two more runs the next inning on a two-run single by Anderson, which gave the Red Foxes a 3-1 advantage.

Sophomore left-hander Stephen Peterson (Danvers, Mass.) did not allow a hit in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. With two outs in the seventh, Canisius' Connor Burke singled with two outs and no one on, and Paul Panik followed with a home run to left field to tie the game at three apiece. The Golden Griffins took the lead an inning later when Adam Donato led off with a double and Ian Choy followed with an RBI single. Canisius added two more runs in the ninth to expand the lead to 6-3.

Peterson took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season. Matt Weber (3-0) pitched 2.1 scoreless innings of relief to earn the victory, and Ryan McGorman got the last two outs for his fourth save of the year.

Canisius once again scored in the first to take a 1-0 lead in the second game. The Golden Griffins made it 2-0 in the fourth on a solo homer by Kevin Mailloux, and compiled a three-run fifth which included a two-run shot by Choy.

Marist got on the scoreboard with two runs on the sixth, as sophomore left fielder Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) and junior designated hitter Andrew Stanton (Delmar, N.Y.) each belted RBI doubles. Each team scored in the seventh to make the final score 6-3 once again.

Marist sophomore shortstop Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) went 4-for-4 with a run scored in game two. Junior left-hander Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.) went the first five innings and took the loss for the Red Foxes, falling to 2-4 on the season. Junior righty Rob Glowacki (Lincroft, N.J.) pitched the final two innings for Marist, allowing just one hit and one run while fanning two.

Shane Davis pitched a complete game for Canisius in game two, scattering 10 hits as he ran his record to 7-0.

The teams will conclude their three-game series tomorrow, with a scheduled start time of noon. Sophomore left-hander Mike Goemans (3-0, 4.61) will get the call for Canisius, while freshman left-hander Sean McKeown (1-1, 2.37) is scheduled to start for Marist.
