Game Two Box Score
POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team swept a doubleheader from Brown on Tuesday at McCann Baseball Field, winning by scores of 9-4 and 5-2 in a pair of seven-inning contests. Sophomore right-hander Richard Cary (Binghamton, N.Y.) improved to 5-0 on the season with his win in game one, which was supported by five RBIs from junior designated hitter Andrew Stanton (Delmar, N.Y.). Red-shirt freshman center fielder Shane Kingsley (Beacon Falls, Conn.) had three hits for Marist in game two.
In game one, the Red Foxes scored four times in the first while sending eight to the plate in that inning. The big blow was a two-run double by Stanton. After Brown scored in the top of the sixth to cut Marist's lead to 4-1, the Red Foxes responded by scoring five runs in the bottom of the inning. Stanton's bases-clearing double gave Marist its final three runs of the contest.
Cary pitched into the seventh, going six-plus innings while allowing just five hits. He was charged with three runs allowed while striking out four. Freshman right-hander Kyle Putnam (Newburgh, N.Y.) got the final three outs for the Red Foxes.
Stanton, junior third baseman Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) and red-shirt junior first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) had two hits apiece for the Red Foxes in the first game.
Marist also scored first in game two, as a sacrifice fly by sophomore left fielder Ryan Gauck (Clifton Park, N.Y.) gave the Red Foxes a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. The Red Foxes then added three runs in the bottom of the second, as red-shirt freshman catcher Bryce Nugent (Binghamton, N.Y.) homered to lead off the inning. A triple by freshman second baseman Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.) plated Kingsley, and Pacione would later score on an infield single by Gauck to make it 4-0.
Brown responded with a pair of runs in the top of the third, but Marist answered with a run in the bottom half of the inning when an infield single by Kingsley allowed sophomore right fielder Kyle LaHonta (Walnut Creek, Calif.) to score.
Sophomore right-hander Eric Alessio (Nyack, N.Y.) pitched into the seventh for his first victory of the season. Junior right-hander Jacob Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) got the final three outs, pitching a scoreless seventh for his second save of the season.
Marist improved to 13-16 on the season, while Brown fell to 13-18. The Red Foxes will return to action on Wednesday with a non-conference road game against Army. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
