POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. - On Tuesday evening at the Marist Tennis Pavilion, the Marist women's tennis team had their six match winning streak snapped by the Pride of Hofstra. Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) was the only Red Fox to win a set in singles action.
Christie Gattelaro won a well-played first singles match over Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif) 6-3, 6-4, and Lauren Clifton won 6-3, 6-3 over Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) in second singles. Both Ong and Godly were honored prior to the match as it was there last scheduled home match of their Marist careers.
Cassie Strange (Valencia, Calif.) was defeated 6-2, 6-2 in third singles, and in fourth singles, Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) was beat 6-0, 6-0 by Stacy Kent.
Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) fell 6-3, 6-1 in fifth singles, and Zampello dropped her sixth singles match 6-4, 2-6, 6-0.
Hofstra won two of three doubles matches to earn the doubles point. Alexa Strange and Godly won 8-5 in first doubles for the only Marist win of the night.
Unless they can make-up their match with Saint Peter's, the Red Foxes (7-8, 6-0 MAAC) will next take the courts at the MAAC Tournament this weekend in Flushing, N.Y.
