FLUSHING, N.Y. -- Rider was no match for the Marist women's tennis team as the Red Foxes dominated the Broncs 7-0 in the quarterfinals of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Women's Tennis Championship at the USTA National Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Marist blanked Rider for the second time this season, and the Red Foxes did not drop a single set in singles action.
Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) and Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) defeated Krissy Paich 6-2, 6-0 in second singles, and Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) and Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) were 6-0, 6-1 winners. Rhetta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) won her sixth singles match 6-0, 6-2 over Shannen Kahler.
The Red Foxes doubles teams were dominant. They won 24 out of 26 total games and cruised to the doubles point.
The Red Foxes, who won the tournament and advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history, will play in the semifinals versus Loyola tomorrow afternoon. The winner of that match will go on to face either Niagara or Fairfield in the final on Sunday.
