Game Two Box Score
SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The Marist baseball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday, as the Red Foxes fell to Le Moyne in both ends of a non-conference doubleheader at Dick Rockwell Field. The Red Foxes suffered a 12-3 loss in game, and a 6-5 defeat in game two to fall to 14-18 on the season.
The Red Foxes got off to a good start in the first game, as sophomore shortstop Richard Curylo (Staten Island, N.Y.) hit a home run to lead off the game. Red-shirt junior first baseman Kenny Anderson (Randolph, N.J.) doubled later in the inning and came around to score on an RBI single by junior right fielder Brian McDonough (Hanover, Mass.).
However, Le Moyne bounced back to score four runs in the first and two in the second. The score stayed at 6-2 until the seventh, when Le Moyne loaded the bases and then received a pinch-hit grand slam from Aaron DiFruscio to make the score 10-2. The Red Foxes scored once in the eighth before Le Moyne added two more runs in its half of the eighth to close out the scoring.
Le Moyne pounded out 15 hits in the first game. Starter Eric Beaulec went seven innings to pick up the victory. Sophomore lefty Stephen Peterson (Danvers, Mass.) took the loss for Marist as he fell to 1-3 on the year.
The Red Foxes dropped the second game despite outhitting the Dolphins 13-4. Curylo, Anderson, freshman second baseman Ricky Pacione (Newburgh, N.Y.) , junior designated hitter Andrew Stanton (Delmar, N.Y.) and junior third baseman Kyle Meyer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) had two hits apiece.
Marist took a 1-0 lead in the second on a solo homer by Stanton, and expanded it to 2-0 in the third when Curylo doubled, advanced to third on a Pacione groundout and then scored on a wild pitch. Le Moyne answered with four runs in the third with the benefit of only one hit, as two errors, three walks and three wild pitches hurt the Red Foxes.
Le Moyne scored twice in the fourth before the Red Foxes mounted a rally in the late innings. A two-run homer by senior catcher Keith Glasser (Rensselaer, N.Y.) in the sixth cut Le Moyne's lead to 6-4. In the seventh, Anderson led off with a double and was driven home on an RBI single by McDonough, but the Red Foxes were unable to push across the tying run.
Junior left-hander Josh Rickards (Glenolden, Pa.) took the loss for Marist, dropping to 2-5. Cory Nelson went the first four innings of the seven-inning contest to earn the win for Le Moyne, striking out six as he improved to 2-3. Luke Nellis got the final four outs to record his fifth save of the season.
The teams will wrap up their three-game series with a single game on Sunday, which will start at noon.
