POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. -- The Marist women's tennis team improved to 2-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with an easy 5-1 win over Fairfield on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams did not play doubles because of cold weather this evening in Poughkeepsie.
"I was really pleased with how well we played considering the cold and wind," Marist head coach Roge Nesbitt said. "It was a big match for us, and it was important that we got this win."
Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) defeated Dana Postupack 6-2, 4-6, 7-5 in a great first singles match. Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) won in her return to singles action. The senior won a tight 6-4, 7-5 decision over Paulina Rys in second singles.
Cassie Strange (Valencia, Calif.) rolled 6-4, 6-2 over Alyssa Ruiz in third singles, and in fourth singles, Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) easily beat Michaela Cerrone 6-4, 6-1.
Mirelva Colon (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) won her fifth singles match over Lauren Bonnano 7-5, 6-1.
Emily Zampello (Kingwood, Texas) dropped her sixth singles match 7-5, 6-1 to Courtney Price.
