LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. -- In their second match in as many days, the Marist women's tennis team rolled over Rider, 7-0, to earn their third straight win. Four different Red Foxes were double winners as the Marist women pushed their record to 4-7 overall, and 3-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference.
With the 7-0 win, Marist has now won 19 of 20 possible points in MAAC play and has won 13 straight conference matches dating back to last year.
Erin Godly (Verona, Ky.) and Alexa Strange (Valencia, Calif.) cruised over Danielle Morse and Kristina Paich 8-1 in first doubles. In second doubles, Natalie Fouché (Queens, N.Y.) had no trouble with Amanda Matticks and Sabrina Govindarajanin an 8-1 win. Jeannie Lukin (Kinderhook, N.Y.) and Retta Byron (Scottsdale, Ariz.) shut down Alyssa Markovits and Shannen Kahler 8-0 in third doubles.
Christine Ong (Tarzana, Calif.) had no trouble with Morse in first singles, as she won 6-1, 6-1. Godly played a great match in second singles. The senior defeated Paich 6-0, 6-0. Cassie Strange (Valencia, Calif.) dominated Matticks 6-0, 6-1 in third singles, and her sister, Alexa, shut down Govindarajan 6-0, 6-0 in fourth singles.
Lukin had no trouble in a 6-0, 6-1 win over Markovits in fifth singles, and Byron beat Kahler 6-1, 6-3 in sixth singles.
After an 0-6 start, the Red Foxes have now won four of five and are in first place in the conference standings. They will return to the courts when they visit Loyola on Sunday. The first match is schedules for a 10 a.m. start.
