Today's MAAC Championship Round To Be Played At Fairfield University

May 11, 2008

FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- Today's Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Round between Marist and Fairfield will be played at Alumni Field on the campus of Fairfield University. Tournament play began on Thursday at DeLuca Field in Stratford, Conn., but after heavy rain postponed all of Friday's action, the tournament was moved to Fairfield on Saturday, and will remain there today.

Marist (24-29), the tournament's fourth seed, advanced to the championship round with a pair of wins on Saturday in the losers' bracket. The Red Foxes defeated Niagara 6-0 before eliminating Fairfield by a score of 6-1. Canisius (37-12) defeated Marist 9-4 in first-round action on Thursday, and toppled Fairfield 6-1 in the winners' bracket final yesterday.

This is the second consecutive year the Red Foxes and Golden Griffins have met in the championship round, with Canisius prevailing last year. Marist has won one MAAC Tournament in its history, which came in 2006. In order to accomplish that feat again today, the Red Foxes will need to defeat the Golden Griffins twice. Canisius needs just one win to earn the championship.

Today's action can be heard live on GoRedFoxes.com beginning at 11:50 a.m.
