BRANDENBURG, GERMANY- Former Marist rower Lisa D'Aniello '08 (Niskayuna, N.Y.) and partner Kristen Headstrom (University of Wisconsin, '08) advanced to the semifinal round in lightweight doubles at the Under 23 World Rowing Championships in Brandenburg, Germany on Friday. The Red Fox/Badger duo won the repechage with a time of 7:40.77 to advance.
After taking fifth in a heat with the top three overall times in yesterday's opening round, D'Aniello and Headstrom knocked 11 seconds off their time and won today's race by almost four full seconds.
Italy (7:44.53) and Poland (7:45.83) finished two and three and also earned spots in the semifinals. The Czech Republic (7:50.26), Japan (7:54.25), and Hong Kong (7:55.67) were eliminated from championship contention.
Semifinal action will occur tomorrow morning with the top three boats from each semifinal advancing to the `A' Final on Sunday. The bottom three boats will race in the `B' Final, which is on Sunday as well.
