Red Foxes Drop Season Opener At Hartford

Aug. 30, 2008

Final Stats

Hartford, Conn. - In their first game of the 2008 season, Marist (0-1) fell to Hartford (1-0) 4-0, in a road match. The Red Foxes biggest problem was trying to contain Carlos Villa. He tallied five points (two goals, one assist) for the Hawks. Marist has not won a season opener since 2006.

Marist put all of their shot attempts on goal. The attempts were taken by junior Matthew Boyd (Carle Place, N.Y.) and freshman Jason Nacca had the final shot on net.

Villa scored both of his goals in a 15 minute span during the first half, with the first coming in the 21st minute, and the second in the 35th minute. The first goal came off a cross from Patrick Boucher, with the second coming on a direct kick. Hartford would add a third goal before intermission.

In goal for the Foxes was senior Marcelo del Rio. He made three saves, in the first game of his senior season. The senior goalkeeper increased his career save total to 63. His career record dropped to 3-8-1.

Marist will complete a two game road trip when they travel south to take on the Delaware Blue Hens (0-1) on Monday, Sept.1. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
